Expansion plan to double capacity of Taiwan's Kinmen Airport

TAIPEI, Mar 25, 2009 (Asia In Focus via COMTEX) -- An expansion project at Taiwan's Kinmen Airport will allow the facility to double its present capacity to 2.3 million passengers upon completion of the work, expected by the end of this year, the Civil Aeronautics Administration (CAA) reported Tuesday. Once the expansion was completed, the terminal space would be increased to 10,827 square meters from the existing 5,534 square meters, CAA officials said.

* The airport on the outlying Kinmen Island currently served 1.05 million passengers a year.

* At the moment, the airport served at least 32 flights each weekday to Taipei, Kaohsiung, Taichung, Chiayi and Tainan on Taiwan proper, according to CAA officials, who said this number could rise to 47 flights on weekends.
