Estranged Husband Arrested In Aggravated Assault CaseJul 20, 2011 (Times Record - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Fort Smith police officers arrested a Fort Smith man Monday night who is accused of assaulting his estranged wife with a knife and running from police. Cody William Dean Jones, 28, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a sharp instrument, two felony warrants out of Okema, Okla., and a misdemeanor complaint of fleeing apprehension after police responded to a 911 hang-up call at his residence in the 2000 block of North 14th Street, according to the police report. Officer Mac McHam responded at about 8:07 p.m. to the residence, where he saw a man, later identified as Jones, standing with his back to the front window. When McHam entered the front gate, a naked woman appeared, banging on the window and asking for help, according to the report. McHam then kicked in the front door, and Jones left the residence through a back window, according to the report. The woman, who was identified as Staci Jones, 27, had blood on the left side of her head coming from her ear and a swollen right cheek, according to the report. She told McHam that she left Cody Jones recently, but he called her Tuesday asking her to come over. Staci Jones said she had a friend drop her off, and as soon as she walked through the door, Cody Jones slammed it shut, held a red knife to her, forced her to remove her clothing and told her, "I'm going to make you bleed," according to the report. Staci Jones then told McHam that Cody Jones hit her in the ear, which was infected, and then gave her a cell phone and "told her to call someone," the report states. She said she called 911, but Cody Jones knocked the phone out of her hands when he realized what she had dialed, according to the report. McHam appeared shortly after, which is when she screamed for help, the report states. She was transported by ambulance to St. Edward Mercy Medical Center, according to the report. Other officers located Cody Jones at North O and North 32nd streets and placed him under arrest, but he denied being at the house and running, according to the report. He told officers that he was sweating because he ran from North 39th Street and Park Avenue. Officers also found a red-handled pocket knife in his possession, according to the report. Cody Jones is being held at the Sebastian County Adult Detention Center on $3,700 bond from the Fort Smith charges, and he is waiting extradition to Oklahoma for the two warrants, according to the report.
