Ericsson partners with Datang Telecom Technology


Apr 21, 2010 (Datamonitor Financial Deals Tracker via COMTEX) -- Telefonaktiebolaget LM Ericsson (Ericsson) has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Datang Telecom Technology & Industry Holdings Co., Ltd. to establish strategic cooperation to jointly develop advanced TDD (Time Division Duplex) solutions, to deliver mobile communications to consumers in China and around the world.

Ericsson is a Sweden-based provider of telecommunications equipment and related services to mobile and fixed network operators, while Datang is a China-based manufacturer of telecommunication equipment.

As part of the MoU, Ericsson will start integrating Datang's current TD-SCDMA (Time Division Synchronous Code Division Multiple Access) radio access network equipment into its own 3G mobile communications offering.

Deal Rationale The partnership allows Ericsson to leverage its position in global mobile communications, as well as Datang's expertise in TDD technology. Such move will increase the industrialization capabilities of TDD solutions by achieving economies of scale, improve the interoperability of operators' 2G/3G/4G networks, and provide support to the commercial launch of TD-LTE (Time Division Duplex Long-Term Evolution) in China in the near future.
