Embedded Linux Track Added To Mobile Linux Conference Agenda At LinuxWorld

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. --(Business Wire)-- IDG World Expo has announced that a new "Embedded Linux" track has been added to the Mobile Linux Conference program at LinuxWorld Conference & Expo(R). Presentations and panels will address a diverse range of topics including development and life-cycles of Linux-based devices, user interfaces, embedded virtualization and other enabling technologies, and case studies from key applications areas. The Mobile Linux Conference is making its debut at this year's event and will offer in-depth technical training, strategic insights, and hands-on experience in mobile Linux and open source opportunities and solutions. LinuxWorld(R) is scheduled to take place August 4-7, 2008 at the Moscone Center in San Francisco.

"IDG World Expo's decision to create an embedded Linux track at LinuxWorld 2008 speaks volumes about the continued momentum this space has recently experienced," said Jason Whitmire, general manager, Mobile Solutions, Wind River. "We are reaching a pivotal juncture point for embedded Linux, and 2008 signals the start of fundamental changes as the mobile and automotive industries, in particular, begin the next generation of Linux platform deployments. We look forward to being at the heart of continued innovation and growth in this space."

Embedded Linux powers more than just mobile applications. Linux pervades consumer electronics, networking and telecommunications infrastructure, and has made impressive inroads in industrial control, automotive, medical, aerospace and defense, and other domains. According to industry analysts, embedded Linux powers between one quarter and one third of all current 32 and 64 bit designs. The Embedded Linux Track explores how Linux enables applications across a range of intelligent devices large and small, tethered and wireless, COTS and custom.

The Embedded Linux Track at LinuxWorld includes the following sessions:

-- Panel Discussion - Building Intelligent Devices with Embedded Linux: Commercial and Community Approaches

-- Open-Source Virtualization: The Right Match for Embedded Linux

-- Linux as an Innovation Platform for Connected Consumer Electronics Devices

-- A Standard for Automotive Grade Linux

-- GNU/Linux in Your Car: How to Build a Computer for Your Car

-- Panel Discussion - Embedded Virtualization: Killer App Enabler or Atomic Fly Swatter

In addition to these six sessions, the Mobile Linux Conference will feature two tutorials focusing on embedded Linux: "Linux: Embedded Design and Programming," presented by Suleman Saya, Instructor at University of California Extension in Silicon Valley; and "Embedded Linux Development: Hacking the Linksys NSLU2," presented by Michael Anderson, CTO/Chief Scientist, The PTR Group.

"With the growing popularity of Linux in embedded systems, there are a lot of questions about how it works," said Michael Anderson, CTO/Chief Scientist, The PTR Group. "This tutorial will give folks a taste of how it's done, and attendees will receive a cool toy to play with when it's over!"

The sessions and tutorials for the Embedded Linux track take place Tuesday, August 5th - Thursday, August 7th. For the complete schedule please visit www.linuxworldexpo.com.
