Invitation to Fellowship is rarely extended to national leaders in the field of Internal Medicine. Dr. Coppola was selected based upon his extensive background in Sleep and Pulmonary Medicine, public health policy patient advocacy, medical leadership, and scholarly activities.



Dr. Coppola is most recognized for initiating the first case series employing Home Sleep Testing for Obstructive Sleep Apnea, published in CHEST in 1993. Home Sleep Testing has now become a primary tool for the diagnosis of Obstructive Sleep Apnea.

A graduate of Fordham College, New York, NY, Dr. Coppola earned a medical degree from Georgetown University and completed his residency in Internal Medicine and subspecialty training in Pulmonary Medicine at Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. He was awarded membership in Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha, the national medical honor society.


Dr. Coppola practiced Pulmonary, Critical Care and Sleep Medicine at Springfield Medical Associates in Springfield, MA before joining NovaSom in July 2012. Dr. Coppola resides in Longmeadow, MA with his wife Ann Zumwalt. They have two children, Lauren and Camille.
