Disabled Cahokia man is missing

Feb 14, 2012 (Belleville News-Democrat - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A 20-year-old developmentally disabled Cahokia man never showed up at his father's house in East St. Louis on Super Bowl Sunday and his mother is worried.

Rufus Williams, who is described by his mother as mentally challenged with the mindset of a 13- or 14-year-old, typically calls her three or four times a day. She has heard from him once since Feb. 8 and filed a missing person's report with the Cahokia Police Department.

"I dropped him off at the bus stop and he was gong to catch the Fifth and Missouri to Emerson Park," said Williams' mother, Stacey Conway. "I just assumed he made it over to his dad's house and I assumed that's where he was, but his dad said he never made it." Conway did talk to Williams on his cell phone late last week, said Cahokia Police Master Sgt. Tim Schrader, but she hasn't heard from him since, hasn't been able reach him and the cell phone provider was unable to locate the phone. Apparently the SIM card in the phone was removed.

"This is not his normal routine," Schrader said. "He usually calls her three or four times a day. She hasn't heard from him and she's worried." Williams lives with his mother in Cahokia and she said he is usually very predictable and has never disappeared before.

"It's just me and him," she said. "We have a lot of people looking and no one has seen him since (Feb. 5)." Williams is an African-American with a medium complexion. He is 5-feet 8-inches tall and weighs about 160 pounds. He has a short haircut with light facial hair.

Anyone with any information about Williams is asked to call the Cahokia Police Department at 337-9505.
