Feb 14, 2012 (Detroit Free Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Art will help those in need Feb. 25 at Pewabic Pottery's 18th annual Empty Bowls fundraiser for Gleaners Community Food Bank.
Visitors can purchase a student- or artist-created bowl for $5 to $20 and receive soup and bread donated by metro Detroit restaurants.
All proceeds go to Gleaners, which can provide three meals for hungry people for each $1 it receives. Last year's event raised $5,000, providing 15,000 meals.
Soups will be served 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the pottery at 10125 E. Jefferson. This year's participating restaurants include Polish Kitchen, Vivio's, Russell Street Deli, Sindbad's, St. John's Hospital, Beverly Hills Grill and Lunchtime Detroit.
Guests can enjoy the soup in the upstairs gallery or tile showroom until 2 p.m. and shop until 6 p.m. There's a two-bowl limit per person. For more information about Pewabic, go to www.pewabic.org
