Dell Enables IT Professionals to Securely Embrace Consumerization of IT with Innovative User and Device Management Software Delivered as a Cloud Service
ROUND ROCK, Texas --(Business Wire)--
Dell (News - Alert) today announced a new cloud client computing solution to help
organizations securely embrace BYOD and consumerized IT across the
increasingly diverse range of worker scenarios. As employees demand
greater freedom and flexibility in how they access their professional
resources, Dell
Wyse Cloud Client Manager, formerly known as Project Stratus,
empowers IT departments to cost-effectively offer the experience
employees require while helping to ensure corporate data remains secure
and business policies are enforced.
As Dell extends its range of cloud client computing solutions to enable
organizations to securely connect users with their corporate resources
regardless of where they are, Dell Wyse Cloud Client manager offers a
cloud-based management option for its thin clients in addition to its
premier on-premise solution. Through a single, cloud-based console, Dell
Wyse Cloud Client Manager enables IT to securely manage company- and
user-owned devices alongside end user access to company applications and
content, without the burden of ongoing solution installation, updates
and maintenance.
To support a broad range of scenarios, the solution delivers
capabilities in four core areas: Systems Management (News - Alert), Application and
Content Management, End User Self-Service and Real-time Reporting and
Alerts.
Systems Management and policy enforcement for thin clients and mobile
devices
Dell Wyse Cloud Client Manager delivers cloud-based remote configuration
and management of Dell Wyse thin and zero clients, on- and off-premise,
including those in highly distributed environments such as branch office
and home users - effectively extending visibility and control beyond the
corporate firewall.
The solution also provides comprehensive over-the-air mobile device
management (MDM) and mobile application management (MAM) capability for
iOS and Android (News - Alert) smartphones and tablets, making it easy to support a
BYOD strategy alongside company-owned mobile devices.
Policy-driven Application and Content Management
In addition to secure management of mobile apps on company- or
user-owned mobile devices, Dell Wyse Cloud Client Manager allows IT to
enable remote desktop and content management between mobile devices and
desktops or laptops through integration with Dell Wyse PocketCloud
software. This integration enables people to have simple, secure access
and management of their content on any of their office or home based
computers from their supported smartphone or tablet.
End User Self-Service Portal
Dell Wyse Cloud Client Manager enables IT deparments to define end user
rights and permissions based on individual or group membership to help
increase productivity and empower users to take an active role in
managing their own experience in order to dramatically reduce the burden
on IT. Users can register their own devices through the self-service
portal for compliant use of corporate resources, and get a personalized
view of which devices are currently registered, add new ones and view
the policies that govern their use. In addition, they are able to reset
system passwords, and in the case of loss or theft of a registered
device, locate, lock or wipe the device clean of corporate data.
Real-time Reporting, Alerts and Analytics
In an era when most employees use not only a desktop device, but also a
tablet and a smartphone to access and use content, Dell Wyse Cloud
Client Manager's cloud-based console provides IT administrators with
registration and usage information on multiple levels to suit audit
requirements. Reports can be generated to detail activity on each
device, on a departmental level or individual user, giving IT
departments a holistic overview of which resources the employee is using
to access corporate resources. Real-time, exceptions-based alerts mean
that IT teams can focus exclusively on critical issues affecting the
security and efficiency of the computing environment, and the detailed
audit trail documents the cause of an issue and any subsequent action.
Pricing and Availability
Dell Wyse Cloud Client Manager is available today in the U.S. and Canada
with worldwide availability expected in 2013. It is delivered as

Quotes
"We support workers that are always on the go, as well as remote and
home users," said Norman Allen, IT Manager, Baker Tilly (BVI) Limited.
"The ability to remotely manage mobile devices and thin clients that
could be anywhere saves me time and amplifies my ability to serve our
employees efficiently. The mobile device management capability the
solution includes is particularly valuable to an accounting firm like
ours that needs to securely support users that love to use their own
devices for work."
"After participating in the beta program we look forward to the launch
of Dell Wyse Cloud Client Manager to enable remote management of thin
clients from anywhere," said Chip Andrews, Associate Vice President of
Information Technology at Brenau University. "Providing the market with
a solution that doesn't have to be managed and maintained on-premise
represents potentially big time and cost savings, as well as valuable
business continuity benefits. The fact the solution also includes Mobile
Device Management and other capabilities to support BYOD and
consumerized IT is also a huge plus, particularly in environments like
education where students are adopting new technologies every day."
"We're excited to see Dell Wyse Cloud Client Manager launch because it
reinforces Dell's commitment to providing customers with innovative
virtualization and cloud solutions for both the server and client side
of the spectrum," said Ken Rindt, SVP Sales and Strategic Alliances for
AEC Group. "Enabling cloud-based management for thin clients is a
significant value-add, and wrapping the management of other end user
devices and services into the same offering to support BYOD is really a
game changer."
"Organizations are increasingly seeing a shift from the
'one-size-fits-all' and 'corporate owned,' 'corporate managed' computing
approach, to a rapidly evolving 'BYOD' model," said Tarkan Maner, vice
president and general manager, Cloud Client Computing at Dell. "With
BYOD, IT departments have to grapple with the complexity of managing and
securing the diversity of operating systems and devices. Dell Wyse Cloud
Client Manager reduces the burden of IT management by providing a
comprehensive overview of all devices, applications and content on the
network at any given time, as well as by providing a granular approach
to accessing corporate resources."
