Data Conversion Laboratory (DCL) Teams with Bowker to support Self Publishers
NEW YORK --(Business Wire)--
Data
Conversion Laboratory (DCL), a leader in future proofing content for
eBooks, online training manuals, archived documents and more, is teaming
with Bowker,
the world's leader in bibliographic information management solutions, to
better serve the self-publishing market. Bowker Identifier Services will
now offer self-publishers DCL's robust EPUB
on Demand eBook Product Service through Bowker's MyIdentifiers.com
website.
"As the U.S. and Australian ISBN agencies, we're often the first stop
for self-publishers. Since eBooks are increasingly a 'must-have' for our
customers, we know providing them instant access to a quality conversion
service streamlines the publishing process," said Beat Barblan,
Director, Bowker Identifier Services. "Bowker has been a trusted partner
to publishers for more than 140 years. We searched for a reliable
service that would enable our customers to retain ownership of their
content and consistently produce an accurate, highly useable eBook.
We're pleased to be working with DCL."
A study by Bowker
Market Research shows dramatic growth of the self-publishing market.
The number of self-published books produced annually in the U.S. has
nearly tripled, growing 287 percent since 2006, tallying more than
235,000 print and "e" titles as of the end of 2011. While print accounts
for 63 percent of self-published books, e-books are gaining fast. E-book
production in 2011 was 87,201, up 129 percent over 2010. In contrast,
print grew 33 percent in the same period.*
"Once an author has decided to self-publish, the next step of creating
an eBook alongside print is obvious - it is too big a market. Not too
far in the future I believe we'll drop the "e" and we'll just have
books," stated DCL CEO Mark Gross. "We applaud Bowker for recognizing
the need for trustworthy conversion services for its customers, and are
honored to have been chosen for that role."
DCL's EPUB on Demand is an online submission portal that allows authors,
publishers, and other users to benefit from the same powerful resources
dedicated to larger clients and organizations while streamlining the
process. It's quick, accurate, cost-effective and supports all popular
eReader devices.
