CTU earns national designation for computer security programs

Jun 11, 2010 (The Gazette - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Students in computer security programs at Colorado Technical University's Colorado Springs campus are eligible for additional scholarships and grants because the programs got high marks from national agencies.

The private university was recognized by the National Security Agency and the Department of Homeland Security as a Center of Academic Excellence in Information Assurance, according to CTU. The designation applies to undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs and is valid through 2015, the release said.

The rating means that CTU students in those programs can apply for scholarships and grants from the Defense Department Information Assurance Scholarship Program and the Federal Cyber Service Scholarship for Service Program.

"This designation is an important one in the industry, and demonstrates our continued commitment to providing career-relevant curricula to our students," said Greg Mitchell, president of CTU Colorado Springs.

"Colorado Springs is a thriving hub for the cyber security industry and the military, and CTU has been at the heart of educating the community's information assurance professionals for nearly a decade." It is one of four Colorado universities and 117 nationwide with the designation.

The goal of the NSA-DHS program is to reduce vulnerability in the nation's information infrastructure by promoting education and research, and by training cyber security professionals.

CTU offers bachelor's and master's degrees in computer security and a doctorate of computer science degree in digital systems security.
