CSBS Initiative, 'Executive Leadership of Cybersecurity,' Continues Into October

(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) LITTLE ROCK, Ark., Sept. 29 -- The Arkansas State Bank Department issued the following news: The Conference of State Bank Supervisors (CSBS) continues to post resources on its Web site as part of an initiative to promote awareness among bank chief executive officers that management of "cyber" security risk is an executive-level issue. The initiative, "Executive Leadership of Cybersecurity," or ELOC, is one component of a broader effort among state and federal banking agencies to combat cyber threats. CSBS has dedicated a page on its Web site with fundamental information and resources to better enable engagement in management of cyber security risk by financial institution CEOs, senior executives and directors.

The ELOC Web page is http://www.csbs.org/cybersecurity. Since the launch of the CSBS initiative, weekly "blog" posts have included: (1) "Assessing Where You Are: Cybersecurity Risk Management"; (2) "Top 20 Critical Security Controls"; (3) "You've Been Hacked/Attacked: The Importance of an Incident Response Plan"; and (4) "Bourne Again Shell (Bash) 'Shellshock' Vulnerability Alert. Bank Regulators Urge Banks to Conduct Risk Assessment to Address Vulnerability." On the ELOC "home" page, bankers can sign up to receive a Cyber Security 101 resource guide that includes content from the ELOC initiative designed exclusively for bank senior management. The page also features a weekly poll to gauge the thoughts and opinions of bank CEOs nationally on cyber security. In addition, the page each week will highlight historical examples of information security breaches that have taken place.

October is National Cyber Security Awareness Month, during which a global effort is planned to impact millions of Internet users on the importance of on-line safety and security. Lauched in 2004, the monthly event is co-sponsored by the Department of Homeland Security in cooperation with the National Cyber Security Alliance and the Multi-State Information Sharing and Analysis Center. More information on what is planning during the month is available at http://staysafeonline.org/ncsam/resources/ways-to-get-involved-in-ncsam-2014.
