Conference to focus on new revenue streams for mobile operatorsAMMAN, May 16, 2012 (Jordan Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- New business models to boost mobile operators' overall revenues will be one of the major topics on the agenda of the Arab Advisers Group's 9th Convergence Summit, scheduled to begin next Tuesday. Participants in the two-day conference, which is expected to attract more than 500 experts and senior executives from across the region, will also look into market trends in cloud-based services, mobile content and apps, and other challenges the telecom industry is facing, Jawad Abbassi, founder and general manager of Arab Advisers Group, said in a press conference on Tuesday. "Mobile operators will face a challenge in generating revenues through providing voice services during the next few years as prices of voice services are on the decline. Growth will mainly come from providing data services," Umniah CEO Ihab Hinnawi said at the press conference. "Next week's conference provides an opportunity to network and share expertise on how to address this challenge," Hinnawi added. Ahmad Hanandeh, CEO of Zain Jordan, said the provision of localised content to users is key to enhancing mobile operators' revenues, especially as revenues from voice services have witnessed a gradual decline over the past few years. "The problem is that the number of Jordanians subscribed to the Internet is modest. The content development industry also needs some more time to mature and that affects operators' revenues," Hanandeh added. "The availability of relevant mobile content and the provision of more e-government services will enhance operators' revenues as users are likely to use more data services," he noted. The two-day conference will be held under the patronage of HRH Princess Sumaya, president of El Hassan Science City and the Royal Scientific Society. ___ (c)2012 the Jordan Times (Amman, Jordan) Visit the Jordan Times (Amman, Jordan) at www.jordantimes.com Distributed by MCT Information Services |
