Computers come to the rescue for these blind children [Jaipur] [Times of India]

(Times of India Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) JAIPUR: In a new dimension to the Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan series of programmes for promoting literacy levels, a pilot batch of 53 blind students were given especially designed 'computer-cum-internet education programme' to create job opportunities in this new sector for them.

Students from across the state, who were called for 13-days training programme, learnt typing, painting, reading and handling social media accounts. The training programme was concluded at OTIS in Jaipur on Saturday.

Students demonstrated handling their social media accounts while typing and switching pages like any other student with vision. Kapil Datad, (16) of Jodhpur now updates his status on Facebook like any other teen with Braille enabled software. His post draws 'likes' and 'comments' to which he also responds.

In a similar manner, other students have learnt the art of operating computer and internet. Manisha of Jodhpur has mastered the art of downloading and uploading files and connecting to the internet. She said, "For the first time, I have used computer in my life and I loved it. Once I will reach home, I will teach computer to my younger brothers too." It is hard to believe that all these students, who have never handled computers in their lives, have learnt so well that that they can now write faster than teens with eyes of their age. This programme is designed in such a manner so as to create jobs like content writing, email handling and job work.

"It has given them a new lease of life. The digital learning has raised their confidence level which will eventually help them in securing jobs in other sectors," said Abha Beniwal, SSA officer.

She also informed that next phase of training will take place exclusively on social media to cash in on the new avenues of jobs in this sectors like account handling of corporate houses, organizations and individuals.
