Computer anti-virus experts warn that Valentine's Day opens the way for spyware, spam and viruses(IRN News Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)Computer experts are warning lovers who are hoping to exchange Valentine cards on Tuesday via e-mail to make sure they do not pick up something unpleasant. Anti-virus company Symantec says millions of electronic communications will be sent between lovers - or would be lovers - on Valentine's Day. However spokeswoman Simone Milne says the high traffic levels open the way for malicious software such as computer viruses or spyware to be sent. Ms Milne says people should think twice before opening an unknown "I Love You" message and should make sure that their anti-virus software is kept up to date. She says if you're thinking of sending an e-card, make sure you go to a reputable company that guarantees a virus-free experience. Symantec also offers a free online check service to anyone who thinks their computer may be vulnerable at their website, www.symantec.com Meanwhile, even text message love-notes aren't safe - A British survey has revealed that 40 percent of people will be texting their loved ones - but a quarter of them have, in the past, misdirected a provocative text or photo to their bosses, their parents or even their ex-partners by mistake. Symantec has not announced a solution for people who send their texts to the wrong people. |
