CMS Selects GMCF to Lead Quality Innovation Network for Georgia and North Carolina

ATLANTA --(Business Wire)--

The Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS) has selected GMCF as the Quality Innovation Network-Quality Improvement Organization (QIN-QIO) for Georgia and North Carolina, effective August 1, 2014. GMCF will work with health care providers in both states to improve quality for patients and families. New QIN-QIO contracts also will be extended to a 5-year term rather than 3 years.

"We are excited about the opportunity to continue making health care better for beneficiaries, families and caregivers through collaborative efforts with providers and other stakeholders," said Dennis White, President & CEO, Alliant Health Solutions. "Under the QIN-QIO contract, our proven approaches will bring improvement models directly to the communities throughout Georgia and North Carolina."

GMCF, a current Medicae QIO, has a proven track record successfully supporting health care quality improvement programs through contracts with public and private entities. As a QIN-QIO, GMCF will engage beneficiaries, providers and others to leverage best practices in pursuit of better health, better care and lower costs.

Specifically, each QIN-QIO will work on strategic initiatives such as reducing health care associated infections; reducing readmissions and medication errors; working with nursing homes to improve care for residents; supporting clinical practices in using interoperable health information technology to enable the exchange of essential health information to improve the coordination of care; promoting prevention activities; reducing cardiac disease and diabetes; reducing health care disparities; and improving patient and family engagement.

Alliant Health Solutions is a nonprofit family of companies, including GMCF. Alliant serves public and private partners to increase the effectiveness, accessibility and value of health care by engaging providers in quality improvement, ensuring appropriate utilization of services, and providing program monitoring and surveillance. Alliant currently provides services throughout Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina and Tennessee. For more information, visit www.gmcf.org.
