Bethany Lutheran Church's Recycling Center is now open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Saturday from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The group now only accepts aluminum recycling.
On July 7, Staunton Music opened a new, larger location at 623 Greenville Ave., Staunton, in Williamsburg Square. The store had outgrown its previous space. The Stonewall Jackson Area Council, Valley District, Boy Scouts of America is starting its annual Cub Scout and Boy Scout recruitment. The boys must be at least 7-10 years old or in the first through fifth grades to join Cub Scouts. The boys must be 10 years old and above to join a Boy Scout Troop. The Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection at the University of Virginia will be closed Sunday through Aug. 25 for renovations and an exhibit change. The collection will reopen Aug. 26.

ShenanArts Growing Stages will hold auditions for "The Jungle Book" today from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and Monday from 6-8:30 p.m. at Stage4 Theatre in Verona. Auditions for ages 8-18 years old. A child under 8 years old may be considered if they have previously performed in a play or at the director's discretion. Show dates are Oct. 31, Nov. 1-2 and 7-8. Local Town Wrestling would like to announce the return of Local Town Wrestling today as a fundraiser for a local man who had to undergo major surgery and is unable to work. The Community Mediation Center will present a workshop called "Mediation and Conflict Resolution and Juvenile and Domestic Relations Family Mediation." The 40-hour training will be held through today in Harrisonburg. This workshop combines the basic and family trainings. Each section may also be taken separately if prerequisites have been met. Cost of the training is $900, including manual fees. The Community Mediation Center will also present a seven-hour workshop on "Communication and Conflict Resolution," on Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Harrisonburg. Congressman Goodlatte will host a Veteran's Service Fair on Tuesday, from 10 a.m. to noon, designed to help enroll veterans in the Virginia healthcare system and to better connect them to the programs, benefits and services that they may not be aware of in the region. A benefit concert will be held Monday at 7 p.m. for Courtney Ott, a 10-year-old undergoing chemotherapy due to bone cancer. Colton Berry will be the featured performer at the concert at Wilson Memorial High School Auditorium in Fishersville. Tickets are $20 per person, which includes a T-shirt that everyone is asked to wear on Courtney's Day. All proceeds will aid with medical expenses incurred during her illness. In order to be eligible, a household must have at least one household member who is over 60 years old, under 6 years old, or disabled. Households must also meet income guidelines. Households with income less than the maximum allowed for the number of the people in the home are eligible.

The Craigsville-Augusta Springs First Aid will hold a country dinner on Aug. 17 at the rescue squad building on Railroad Avenue at noon and deliveries will be made in the Craigsville area. Dinner includes half of a barbecue chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy, green beans, baked macaroni and cheese, cole slaw, homemade rolls, a variety of homemade desserts, coffee and tea. The 2008 Virginia in History panel exhibition from the Library of Virginia will be on display at the Waynesboro Public Library through Sept. 15. On Aug. 20, at noon, there will be an exhibit program by Jennifer McDaid, local records appraisal archivist for the Library of Virginia, highlighting outstanding Virginia women who saw things differently than their contemporaries, developed new approaches to old problems, strove for excellence based on the courage of their convictions and initiated changes in Virginia and America that continue to have an impact on lives today.

The Mental Health Association of Augusta is accepting nominations for the J. Lewis Gibbs Distinguished Service Award. Individuals or groups may make nominations by sending in the names of persons or organizations who have done work in the interest of mental health in the Staunton, Waynesboro or Augusta County area.
