Cisco deploys ASA 5520 solution for IOM security upgrade

(Corporate IT Update Via Acquire Media NewsEdge)
The Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) 5520 from networking solutions
provider Cisco (Nasdaq:CSCO) has been used to complete an upgrade of
the entire security system of the International Organization for
Migration (IOM), an intergovernmental organisation dedicated to
promoting humane and orderly policies for the movement of persons
across borders.

Cisco said the ASA 5520 offers a broad range of security services with
Active/Active high availability and Gigabit Ethernet connectivity for
medium-sized enterprise networks in a modular, high-performance
appliance. It claimed businesses can use its four Gigabit Ethernet
interfaces and support for up to 25 VLANs to deploy these security
services into multiple zones within their network.

In addition, Cisco confirmed its Aironet wireless access points were
deployed in order to provide IOM's employees with increased mobility
within the office.

According to Cisco, the six new ASA 5520s will help the IOM network to
deploy up to 60 virtual firewalls to support compartmentalised control
of security policies on a departmental level, strengthening security
and reducing overall management and support costs, while consolidating
multiple security devices into a single appliance.

IOM's daily operations in the Philippines require a reliable, secure
network which can enable an uninterrupted information flow, with hourly
reports sent to the Geneva head office. IOM's operation in Manila,
Philippines, is the organisation's IT hub and the human resources
centre and accounting core of global operations.
