Cinépolis' KLIC TVOD Platform Powered By castLabs Playback and DRM Technology

BERLIN, Nov. 28, 2016 /PRNewswire/ -- castLabs, a digital video technology and services company, today announced a partnership with Cinépolis, the fourth largest world cinema exhibitor and largest in Mexico and Latin America. The partnership delivers robust multi-platform video playback technology and DRM license management for the Cinépolis KLIC transactional video-on-demand service.

Boasting a catalogue of more than 1.5k movie titles and pay-per-event live content, Cinépolis KLIC launched in 2013 to take advantage of the fast growing Mexican OTT market. KLIC is an extension to Cinépolis' cinema operations across North America, South America, Europe and Asia. Its position as a leading cinema operator in Mexico has given Cinépolis unique cross-promotional opportunities, driving KLIC's success.

Cinépolis chose castLabs' interoperable solutions: facilitating multi-device playback technology for video-on-demand across Smooth Streaming, MPEG-DASH and HLS formats with cross-browser DASH Everywhere player, and both online and offline playback through mobile Video Player SDKs for iOS and Android™.

In addition to castLabs player technology, Cinépolis implemented the cloud-based digital rights management (DRM) icensing system DRMtoday to enable easy DRM management across Microsoft® PlayReady®, Google Widevine™ and Apple FairPlay Streaming.

"Using castLabs technologies, the Cinépolis KLIC platform is able to provide effortless management of DRM licenses for protected content, while providing KLIC's customers with encapsulating experiences through VOD and live streaming," said Michael Stattmann, Managing Director of castLabs. "Our interoperable player and DRM license management technologies provide a dependable backbone to KLIC's operations."

"With Cinépolis KLIC, we are at the forefront of premium multi-screen and OTT content delivery across Mexico and Latin America," said Marco de la Cruz, Deputy Director of Cinépolis KLIC. "castLabs interoperable technologies enable KLIC to offer immersive multi-device video experiences to be enjoyed online and offline through mobile devices."
