Cindy Ahn Joins Schiff Hardin's Intellectual Property Practice

Schiff Hardin is pleased to announce that Cindy S. Ahn has joined the firm as counsel in the Intellectual Property practice group. With legal experience spanning private practice and in-house counsel roles, Ms. Ahn joins Schiff Hardin from Global IP Law Group, where she was a partner. She is based in the firm's Chicago office.

In addition to her extensive experience litigating patent cases as outside counsel and managing multiple litigations as in-house general counsel, Ms. Ahn leverages her intellectual property expertise by managing and overseeing the strategic development of her clients' intellectual property portfolios.

"We are excited to have Cindy join our team," said Steve Hankins, hed of Schiff Hardin's Intellectual Property practice group. "Her dual experience in managing strategic development of intellectual property portfolios and impressive track record in litigating patent cases will be an excellent complement to our Intellectual Property practice. Her experience will significantly expand our ability to serve our medical device and life sciences clients."

During her time serving as in-house counsel for a publicly traded biotechnology company, and later a medical device company, Ms. Ahn managed numerous active patent litigation cases. She also gained experience monetizing patents, including conducting portfolio valuations and targeted sales/licensing campaigns. Ms. Ahn was involved in the first high profile patent portfolio bidding war, which sparked a trend among companies seeking to monetize their patent portfolios. Ms. Ahn has counseled clients through all stages of managing patent portfolios, from the valuation stages through to the sale of patents.

"I am excited to join the Intellectual Property group and work alongside my friend, and former colleague, Imron Aly," said Ms. Ahn. "I am eager to work on more patent litigation matters and at Schiff Hardin I will have the 'big law' support with the intimacy of a small practice group. I was also drawn to the firm due to the tremendous opportunities it provides its female attorneys. The fact that there are a lot of women in the firm, not only at the associate level, but at the partner level speaks volumes. It's inspiring to be around women who are where I have been, where I am and where I hope to be."

Ms. Ahn earned her J.D. from Washington College of Law, American University, cum laude, where she served as the Federal Circuit Editor of The American University Law Review. She earned her B.S. from the University of Illinois.
