Christian Atwood from Choate, Hall & Stewart Named Law360 Private Equity "Rising Star"

BOSTON --(Business Wire)--

Christian Atwood, a partner in the Private Equity Group at Choate, Hall & Stewart LLP, has been selected as a Law360 2014 Private Equity "Rising Star." The award honors the most accomplished attorneys in their practice areas under the age of 40. Atwood, 38 years old, is widely considered one of the country's top middle market private equity attorneys and was one of only seven attorneys selected for Law360's Private Equity Rising Star designation.

Atwood has served as lead or co-lead counsel on over 50 closed deals worth billions of dollars over the past several years. In 2013, he served as lead or co-lead counsel on 21 deals worth an aggregate $1.4 billion. In 2012, he led 12 deals worth an aggregate $1.1 billion. Atwood represents a who's who list of private equity fund clients including Bain Capital Ventures, The Blackstone Group, Intervale Capital, Spectrum (News - Alert) Equity and Windjammer Capital Investors, and has earned a reputation for handling complex, pressure cooker, time sensitive deals.

"Christian is an extremely talented lawyerand we are very proud of his inclusion in this prestigious list of emerging private equity stars," said Choate's co-managing partners Charles Cheever and William Gelnaw. "Clients invariably cite his business savvy, responsiveness, and ability to identify and focus on the issues that matter as chief among the reasons they want him on their team."

At Choate, Atwood represents private equity funds, their portfolio companies - and, with some frequency, those who find themselves across the table from a private equity fund or a PE-backed company - in negotiating and structuring complex M&A transactions, leveraged buyouts, growth capital investments, and recapitalizations. His work with private equity funds, a core competency of the firm, involves advising with respect to all phases of the funds' investment process and their portfolio companies' life-cycle - from initial investment to exit, including with respect to add-on acquisitions, carve-outs and other divestitures.

Atwood received his J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law in 2001 and his A.B. from Dartmouth College in 1998. He has been selected as a 40 Under 40 Award Winner by The M&A Advisor, recognized in The Legal 500, and perennially named a Massachusetts Super Lawyers Rising Star.
