China's Utilization of Geothermal Energy Ranks First Worldwide

(SinoCast Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)BEIJING, May 03, 2006 (SinoCast via COMTEX) --According to the "2005 Chinese Geothermal Environment Bulletin" released by the Ministry of Land and Resources of China that the direct utilization of geothermal energy in China has reached 13.76 cubic meters per second, and in 2005, the geothermal energy came to 10779 megawatts, ranking first in the world.



Presently, there are 103 geothermal energy fields approved by the Ministry of Land and Resources of China and the submitted extractable geothermal energy resources are 332.83 million cubic meters per year; there are 214 geothermal energy fields with preliminary evaluation and the extractable resources come to about 500 million cubic meters per year.

Estimated according to the present developing level, each year the total utilizable geothermal energy amount nationwide comes to about 6.717 billion cubic meters, whose caloric heat is 969.28*1015 joule.



According to the latest statistics, China's annually utilized geothermal energy comes to 10779 mega watts, keeping growing by nearly 10% each year. However, geothermal energy only accounts for less than 0.5% of the total energy resources. Utilization of medium and low-temperature geothermal energy resources have been widespread in China, such as heating, scouring bath, aquiculture.
