China's Hu says will meet Koizumi if shrine visits halted+

(Japan Economic Newswire Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)BEIJING, March 31_(Kyodo) _ Chinese President Hu Jintao on Friday blamed Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi's visits to the war-linked Yasukuni Shrine for the deterioration of bilateral ties, adding that China would hold summit talks with Japan when the visits stop, Japanese politicians who met with Hu said.

Former Japanese Prime Minister Ryutaro Hashimoto quoted Hu as saying in a meeting in Beijing that the cause of the souring ties "does not lie with Chinese or Japanese people, but with the fact that a small number of Japanese leaders are visiting Yasukuni Shrine."

"Summit meetings can be held as soon as they are discontinued," Hu said.
