China Telecom to Complete CDMA Network Upgrade in H1 2009

BEIJING, Dec 26, 2008 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) --
Newly regrouped telecommunications giant China Telecom Corporation Limited (NYSE: CHA, and SEHK: 0728) is scheduled to complete CDMA network upgrade and expansion projects in more than 340 cities in the first half of 2009.

Meanwhile, the company will lift up the CDMA wireless broadband network access speed in over 80 cities to 1Mbps, enabling CDMA users to have better experience in wireless network access. Its branches in some cities, like Shanghai and Wuhan, have been in preparations for the upgrade projects.

China Telecom, the new operator of the CDMA network, once said that it would successively invest CNY 80 billion in CDMA network upgrading, reconstruction, and optimization in the coming three years.

In late December 2008, it officially kicked off a new nationwide CDMA service called SurFing, which offers mobile phone users with broader access to the Internet and value-added telecom services.
