China Mobile, Chana Auto join hands to develop smart cars

CHONGQING, Nov 18, 2009 (Xinhua via COMTEX) -- Chana Auto (ChangAn) and the Chongqing branch of China Mobile (0941.HK; CHL.NYSE) have signed a strategic cooperation agreement to co-develop smart cars.

The cooperation will include the R&D of smart cars, which covers remote vehicle diagnostics, positioning, and navigation technologies.

The two parties will try to apply machine-to-machine technology by embedding telecom modules in the cars, which will collect operating data and transmit it for processing via 3G networks. This would enable remote monitoring and management.

The cars will be equipped with features such as remote diagnostics, remote control, remote positioning and tracking, the Internet, and technologies which emulate an office environment.
