China military recruits face drug tests

(UPI Top Stories Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)China's military colleges will now be required to administer drug and psychological tests to new recruits.

The new rules, which will require urine tests for drugs, were announced by the People's Liberation Army because of an increase in drug use among young Chinese, an army spokesman told the official Xinhua news agency.

Applicants to military colleges will also be required to undergo psychological tests which would include a written exam and an interview. Those applying for a degree in military strategy should be able to answer 700 to 800 questions in a one-hour test. Those applying for technology majors must answer 400 to 500 in one hour.

The military colleges no longer will admit teens wearing fashionable tattoos because they tarnish the military's image, one official told the news agency. Only tattoos following the traditions of ethnic minorities will be accepted if they are not too prominent in summer shorts. Heavy snorers, too, need not apply.
