Chengdu Eyes CNY300bn E-commerce Trading Value by 2012

CHENGDU, Nov 06, 2009 (SinoCast Daily Business Beat via COMTEX) -- The western Chinese city of Chengdu is ambitious to achieve an annual e-commerce trading value of CNY 300 billion by 2012, ranking No. 1 among the western Chinese cities, citing the municipal government's layout.

With the aim of becoming the west's megalopolis, Chengdu has shaped its pillar and characteristic industries like IT, machinery, pharmaceutical and foodstuff, metallurgy and building material, petrochemical, footwear, and furniture, which are expected to serve as an impetus to the B2B market.

Chengdu's e-commerce market is also expected to benefit from the local robust backbone communications network, advanced information infrastructure, widespread information application, as well as big mobile service user base.

Upon a report by the China Internet Network Information Center, the number of Chengdu's netizens had reached about 6.6 million by 2008, accounting for 60% of the local population, compared with the average level of 25.5% in China. Besides, about 1.41 million or 21.4% of the city's netizens had been online shoppers by then.
