Chamber, KPMG to host seminar

Jul 03, 2009 (Cayman Net News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- The CI Chamber of Commerce and KPMG will offer local businesses advice on staying afloat in a rough economy.

The Chamber's Small Business Development Committee has joined with KPMG to host an afternoon presentation and reception from 3:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Thursday, 23 July at the Brasserie Conference Centre.

The presentation will provide Chamber member businesses with useful advice about how to succeed during challenging economic times, a Chamber press release said.

"Businesses need as much assistance as possible during these challenging economic times," said Chamber President Stuart Bostock.

"The Chamber's Small Business Development Committee, co-chaired by Councilors David Kirkaldy of Massive Equipment and Rentals and Farried Sulliman, Managing Director of Scotiabank, have done an excellent job establishing a relationship with KPMG who will deliver a high quality presentation that will surely assist Chamber members to learn how to take action to preserve their businesses during the current slowdown in the economy. I would encourage all Chamber members to attend." The "Succeeding in Turbulent Times" presentation will address ways businesses can preserve cash, cut costs and will identify potential risks and opportunities for businesses.

KPMG Partner and Head of Advisory Simon Whicker will deliver the presentation and will address why cash is important to business owners and recommend some quick wins, focusing on preservation and generation of cash. Forecasting and monitoring will be addressed as well as capital expenditure and cash versus profitability.

"Given the current economic climate we wanted to take the opportunity to share our knowledge with local businesses providing them with the practical tools needed to keep their businesses afloat during these difficult times," Mr Whicker said.

The presentation is free for Chamber members and registration is required as space is limited.
