CH2M HILL Foundation Awards $75,000 Grant to Teach FirstCH2M HILL (News - Alert), the employee-owned infrastructure and programme management company, is pleased to announce that it has awarded a grant of US$75,000 to UK education charity Teach First. The funding, provided through the CH2M HILL Foundation, will help support the provision of high quality Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) teachers in schools serving low-income communities across England. It will be used to recruit, train and place 12 STEM teachers in UK classrooms to help prepare 2,000 students for university placements and STEM careers. The grant is one of three being made this year by the CH2M HILL Foundation to UK based organisations, making up a total US$140,000 investment. Commenting on the grant, Founder and CEO of Teach First, Brett Wigdortz OBE, said: "More than ever there is an urgent need for STEM graduates to meet economic demand, but the uptake of STEM subjects is dependent on having high quality teachers and reaching out to pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds. Next year, Teach First aims to provide around 50 per cent of all new Science and Maths teachers in schools serving low-income communities. This grant from the CH2M HILL Foundation will help us to do just that, allowing us to reach more pupils and ensuring that all children regardless of background are able to unlock the benefits that a career in STEM can bring."
