Calient Expands Sales Force for Growth and Expansion Into New Markets


SANTA BARBARA, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Calient Networks, Inc., the global leader for optical switching technology, today announced it has expanded its sales force with the addition of four new sales executives.

The new additions to the sales team help to position Calient to pursue new markets where customers are adopting 100G network technologies to manage an explosion in content and data. Calient is best known for its FiberConnect FC320X, a breakthrough fiber optic cross-connect system that offers the largest capacity and density in the industry based on 3D micro-electro-mechanical-systems (MEMS) technology.

Thus, we are adding this experienced team in order to tap new markets with service providers, government agencies, ISPs, data center operators, and more," said Kevin Welsh, president and COO for Calient Networks. Senior telecom professional, O.J. Johnston, joins Calient as its new global solutions leader. Prior to joinin the Calient team, Johnston held various positions at large corporations and startups throughout the telecommunications industry including work with Glimmerglass Networks and Cisco (News - Alert) Systems. Johnston holds both an MA in technical communication and a BS in secondary education in English from East Carolina University.



Also joining the Calient team is John Reynolds, who will oversee the company's business development for data center and OEM partners. Reynolds' past sales experience includes positions at Infinera Corporation, Inc. and CIENA (News - Alert) Communications, Inc. Reynolds brings extensive experience as a sales executive with a proven track record in the telecommunications industry. Reynolds holds a BS in electrical engineering from Southern Methodist University.

Bill Stephenson will be responsible for Calient's business development for service providers. Prior to joining Calient, Stephenson held various positions at CIENA Corporation and Nortel (News - Alert) Networks. Stephenson brings more than 16 years of experience in technical sales, data networking and systems engineering. He holds an M.S. degree in computer information systems from St. Mary`s University and a B.S. in political science from Charleston Southern University.


Named Calient's new government practice leader, Glenn Stern joins the company from FORTINET, where he served as director of federal business development. Stern previously served as a National Account Manager for AT&T for ADTRAN (News - Alert) Corporation and brings 20 years of strong sales and major account management experience in the federal government and service provider sectors. Stern holds a Bachelors Degree from Temple University.
