Bush, on Earth Day, touts hydrogen power

(UPI Top Stories Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge)President George W. Bush marked Earth Day Saturday by visiting a hydrogen fuel cell facility in California.

He also visited the California Highway Patrol Academy where he praised the Iraqi Parliament for forming a government under new Prime Minister Jawad al-Maliki, the Sacramento Bee reported.

Scores of protesters and a few supporters greeted Bush's motorcade as it traveled from the academy to the California Fuel Cell Partnership in Sacramento. About 1,500 people gathered outside the building were kept one-eighth of a mile away.

Bush spoke to 150 people inside.

The idea of having hydrogen-powered vehicles is not a foolish dream, Bush said.

Bush arrived in California on Friday and plans to stay through Monday.

Sunday's schedule calls for the president to visit with U.S. Marines and talk about the war on terror, and a speech on immigration reform is planned for Monday.
