BSM selects Blue Ocean Wireless's GSM solution for 300 vessels

Dec 03, 2008 (Datamonitor via COMTEX) --
Blue Ocean Wireless, an Irish company delivering GSM communication capability for the merchant maritime sector, has announced that the integrated maritime services company Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement will install the company's GSM solution across 300 of its fully managed vessels.

The communications of the vessels within the Bernhard Schulte Shipmanagement (BSM) fleet are handled by Telaccount Overseas, an integrated maritime communications services company. Telaccount Overseas has, to date, installed Blue Ocean Wireless's (BOW's) GSM solution on two BSM vessels, the Cap Breton and Happy Bird.

BSM and Telaccount were among the first customers to install and evaluate the BOW global communications solution. It is reported that the success of these installations, both from a technical perspective and from a crew usage and feedback perspective, has resulted in the move to install the solution across the entire BSM fleet.

Using the BOW service, seafarers can make and receive voice calls, and also send and receive SMS messages using their existing mobile phones in deep ocean water where, traditionally, no GSM network has existed. In addition, BOW also provides a dedicated crew email facility, BOW-Mail.
