Broward's Outstanding Mathematics Teachers Announced


(Targeted News Service Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla., Feb. 24 -- The Broward County Public Schools issued the following news release: Broward County Public Schools Core Curriculum Department and the Broward County Council of the Teachers of Mathematics recently announced the 2010/11 Mathematics Teachers of the Year.



The Elementary Mathematics Teacher of the Year is Marjorie Archer, a third grade teacher at Nova Blanche Forman Elementary School. Archer is a District math facilitator and an advanced Promethean trainer. Her students use iPod touch technology to develop podcasts for mathematics lessons and the use of the iPod touch is extended to complete their homework assignments. Archer has a master's degree in educational technology from Florida Atlantic University.

The Middle School Mathematics Teacher of the Year is Melissa Rodriguez, a math teacher at Deerfield Beach Middle School. Rodriguez has used her creativity to develop projects such as Music + Math = SUCCESS, Math Minute Mirror Cards, Math Jeopardy and ESOL math fluency tournaments. She has been awarded several grants from the Broward Education Foundation and the National Science Foundation. Rodriguez has a master's degree in middle grades mathematics from Florida Atlantic University.


The High School Mathematics Teacher of the Year is Laszlo Nagy, a math teacher at Western High School. Nagy develops innovative projects for his students and incorporates technology at every step. He worked with his peers to restructure the Pre-Calculus and Advanced Placement Calculus courses to align with the highest standards. Nagy also networks with colleagues nationwide, and regularly attends professional workshops to keep current with pedagogical practices. Nagy has a master's degree in mathematics from Florida International University.
