Brooktrout Announces Environmental Directive Plans for its Voice and Fax ProductsNEEDHAM, Massachusetts, November 7 /PRNewswire/ -- - Releases industry's first telephony platform to conform with RoHS and WEEE requirements Brooktrout Technology, Inc., a leading supplier of media processing and call control products, today announced new products in its TR1000 voice processing board family that are the industry's first telephony platforms that meet the European Union Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive. Brooktrout has also implemented Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) labeling on all European Union products to reduce customer expenses in meeting the WEEE directive. These platforms are the first in a series of products that are planned to meet the environmental requirements in advance of the July, 2006 deadline. (Logo: http://www.newscom.com/cgi-bin/prnh/19990806/BRKTTECH ) The RoHS Directive applies to electrical and electronic products, and their component parts, expected to be offered for sale in the European Union after July 1, 2006. In addition to lead, this law restricts the use of mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium and two halide-containing flame retardants: PBB (polybrominated biphenyl) and PBDE (polybrominated diphenyl ether). The WEEE Directive, which took effect in August 2005, aims to raise the level of recycling of electrical and electronic equipment and encourages designers to create products with recycling in mind. RoHS supports this by reducing the amount of hazardous chemicals used in production. "Brooktrout is committed to achieving compliance with all applicable environmental legislation and this first product places Brooktrout Technology at the vanguard of the communications enabling technology industry," said Peter Vescuso, vice president of market development for Brooktrout Technology. "Brooktrout's compliance with these regulations is an example of our business' commitment to environmentally sound practices. We have already implemented WEEE and plan to meet the RoHS requirements in our entire voice and fax products by the time the directive take effect in July 2006." Optimized for speech and IVR applications, Brooktrout's TR1000 family is a range of telephony platforms upon which OEMs and ISVs can build solutions. TR1000 models are available ranging from 4 port analog to multiple span digital configurations, united under a single driver and API and featuring a comprehensive set of global signaling and protocol capabilities. With the single API design developers can run their applications across different RoHS compliant configurations without changing their software.
