BRIEF: Waveland man charged with 5 counts of child-porn possession

WAVELAND, Feb 11, 2011 (The Sun Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A Waveland man has been charged with five counts of possession of child pornography after his arrest Wednesday, police said.

Ricardo Michael Faciane, 33, who lived in Coral Bay Apartments on U.S. 90, faces five to 40 years for each count if convicted, said Chief James Varnell. Bond was set at $250,000.

Members of the Mississippi Attorney General's Internet Crimes Against Children task force, Waveland investigator David Allen, Jackson County sheriff's deputy Hope Thornton and Waveland officers Chris Allen and Howard O'Gwin participated in a search at Faciane's apartment about 5 p.m. Wednesday.

Faciane was arrested based on a preliminary examination of his computer equipment, Varnell said.

More charges could come after full forensic examinations of the equipment are completed, Varnell said.

The ICAC Task Force uses advanced computer hardware and software to seek out these predators using the Internet and bring them to justice, Varnell said.

This is Waveland's second arrest of a suspect involving possession of child pornography since Jan. 1, he said.
