(Business Day (South Africa) Via Thomson Dialog NewsEdge) Range of new services lifts mining trade hub Quadrem to record profit QUADREM, the mining industry's global online trading hub saw a 27% rise in sales for the first half of this year, handling 1-million purchases worth $6,23bn. New procurement, data management, supply chain finance and spend analysis services helped it win new customers.



Minolta SA wins outsourcing deal MINOLTA SA has won a three-year outsourcing contract to provide document output services for Alexander Forbes's financial services division. The deal should cut costs by monitoring document production costs by user, department and cost centre.

Banking on the cellphone STANDARD Bank has introduced internet banking on the cellphone with the same interface as its ATM machines. Customers are billed for the amount of data transmitted, not the length of the call, making complex transactions cheaper.



Dell Foundation makes R5m donation THE Dell Foundation has donated 13 servers and 463 computers worth R5m to Cida City Campus, which offers business degree scholarships to disadvantaged students. The computers replaced older models in Cida's ICT Academy.

Intel launches charity collection INTEL SA is collecting unused promotional items such as clothes and stationery from the IT industry to distribute to the Salvation Army. Collection points are at Intel, Annex, Axis, Esquire, Lightedge, Mecer, Pinnacle Micro and Sahara offices. Computer Society exec wins global position PROF Basie Von Solms has become the president-elect of the International Federation of Information Processing, ahead of the general assembly next year. Von Solms serves on the executive of the Computer Society SA.

Very briefly ACCENTURE has appointed William Mzimba as its new CEO. Mzimba has been with the company for several years.
