BRIEF: Sylvan teachers in Modesto reject change to school scheduleMODESTO, May 19, 2013 (The Modesto Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Sylvan teachers have rejected a proposal to change next year's school schedule to give them time to collaborate, leaving the length of school days unchanged for 2013-14, the district announced. After taking parent input at two town meetings and several months spent crafting busing and schedule options, the Sylvan Union School District board voted in April to cut Wednesdays by an hour but lengthen other school days by 15 minutes. The plan left instructional minutes over the week unchanged but would have set aside an hour a week for teachers to meet. The Sylvan Educators Association did not ratify the change, said Debra Hendricks, head of Sylvan human resources. Hendricks said the district remains committed to the concept of professional learning communities. ___ (c)2013 The Modesto Bee (Modesto, Calif.)
