BRIEF: Report: SUV driver turned left in front of moped in fatal crash

May 11, 2011 (Milwaukee Journal Sentinel - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A video of a fatal crash on S. Kinnickinnic Ave. showed the driver of a Chevrolet Tahoe turned left in front of a 29-year-old man on a moped, as both attempted to beat a yellow light at E. Lincoln Ave. Monday afternoon.

Details of the crash were included in the medical examiner's report on Adam Filtz, who suffered severe head injuries. According to the report, a helmet was found at the scene, but it did not appear he was wearing it at the time of the collision.

Filtz, of Cudahy, worked at the Chase Bank on Water St. and was motoring home southbound on Kinnickinnic about 3:40 p.m. Monday.

A video captured by a camera at a nearby restaurant showed Filtz approach the intersection as the stoplight turned yellow.

The driver of the Tahoe had stopped at the intersection, then turned left in front of Filtz, who laid down his scooter and crashed into the truck.

His family members consented to have his organs harvested for donation.

Friends and relatives placed flowers at the crash site, in a memorial to Filtz.
