BRIEF: Nokia Siemens Networks finalizes Motorola deal

HELSINKI, Apr 29, 2011 (dpa - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- Joint venture Nokia Siemens Networks said Friday it has finalized its deal to buy parts of US-based group Motorola's wireless network infrastructure assets.

Nokia Siemens Networks is to pay 975 million dollars in cash and take over responsibility for managing 50 operator customers in 52 countries, the group said in a statement.

Some 6,900 Motorola employees are to transfer to Nokia Siemens Networks.

Nokia Siemens Networks said the deal would help strengthen its position in North America and Japan.

The deal between Motorola and Nokia Siemens Networks was announced in July, and has been subject to approval from various regulators.

Nokia Siemens Networks, launched 2007, is jointly owned by Finnish mobile telephone maker Nokia and Germany's Siemens.
