BRIEF: Mechanized Mayhem set for Sac State

Nov 22, 2008 (The Sacramento Bee - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Lightweight division matches between rock-em, sock-em robots are scheduled for Sunday at Sacramento State as students put their best work forward in a series of mechanized smash ups.

The university's Robotics Club will hold the "Robo Rumble" featuring "ant weight" robots from noon to 5 p.m. Sunday in the University Union Ballroom.

The robots are referred to as ant weight because they are tiny, weighing less than a pound. Instead of throwing their weight around, these creations try to destroy opponents with more creative methods.

"They are tiny, and they have all kinds of kill features like little scoopers, jaws and spinners to flip over the other robots," said Sue Holl, faculty advisor.

Holl said the extra features make ant weight rumbles more fun to watch than competitions involving larger robots. The event is free and open to the public.
