BRIEF: Man robs credit union in Benicia

BENICIA, May 23, 2009 (Times-Herald - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A masked man robbed a Metro 1 Credit Union branch at 836C Southampton Road at about 11 a.m. Friday.

The lone robber entered with a handgun and demanded money from employees, Benicia Police Lt. Mike Daley said. After taking an undisclosed amount of cash, he fled on foot, Daley said.

There were no customers in the office at the time.

The robber was described as a white man wearing a black ski mask and a black sweatshirt, 6-feet weighing between 230 and 250 pounds, police said.

The FBI and other law-enforcement agencies will help investigate to determine if the robbery matches others in the Bay Area, police said.

There have been three Benicia bank robberies in seven months. Bank of the West at 1001 First St. was hit Oct. 21 and again on March 10.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at (707) 746-4252 or crime-stoppers at 644-STOP.
