BRIEF: Man dies in OKC parking garage painting accident

Oct 20, 2008 (The Oklahoman - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
A downtown Oklahoma City street is closed after a "cherry picker" lift accident that killed a man, authorities said.

All lanes of Main Street between Broadway and Robinson avenues are expected to be closed until at least 1 p.m., police Lt. Jay W. Barnett said. Pedestrian traffic in the area is limited.

The man's name has not been released because family members have not been notified. He's an out-of-state resident who works for California-based Delgar Remodeling, Barnett said.

About 9:15 a.m., the lift, which was about 40 feet tall, toppled onto the eastbound lane of Main, crushing the man. The man was painting the exterior of Century Center parking garage, Barnett said.

"Fortunately, no pedestrians or vehicles were involved," Barnett said.
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration will investigate the accident, Barnett said.
