BRIEF: Library board passes property tax increase

(Messenger-Inquirer (Owensboro, KY) (KRT) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Aug. 21--The Daviess County Public Library Board of Trustees voted unanimously Wednesday to raise the real property tax rate from 5.9 cents to 6 cents.

The increase followed a public hearing at the library Wednesday evening where it was determined that the change will provide a 4 percent increase in revenue toward the library for a total anticipated revenue of $2,608,664.

For residents, that means a minimal difference in property taxes. For a homeowner of a $100,000 house, the library tax would be $60, up $1 from $59 in 2007.

The expected revenue from personal property taxes is $459,296 more than last year, and officials said the money will be used for operating expenses, the rising cost of books, library materials, technology, support for existing and new library programs and debt payment.
