BRIEF: Jackson Township man killed in hit-skip accident while walking friend's dogJan 01, 2011 (The Akron Beacon Journal - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- A 55-year-old Jackson Township man walking a friend's dog was killed Friday night when he was struck by a vehicle that then fled. The hit-skip accident happened between 7:30 and 8 p.m. in the 6200 block of Lake Cable Avenue Northwest, which is in a residential area. James Jenkins of East Boulevard in Jackson Township was pronounced dead at the scene by the Stark County Coroner's Office. Police think Jenkins was walking his friend's German shepherd-mix dog southbound on Lake Cable when he was struck by a north-bound motorist. The collision broke the vehicle's passenger side window, said Jackson Township Police Chief Dave Zink. Jenkins regularly walked the dog for his friend. When he didn't return after his normal 15- to 20-minute absence, his friends became concerned. The dog wasn't injured, Zink said. The area where the crash occurred isn't heavily traveled. "Normally, the only traffic is residents cutting through," Zink said. Police are asking that anyone with information to call the department at 330-832-1553. "Anything people can share would be welcomed at this point," Zink said. To see more of the Akron Beacon Journal, or to subscribe to the newspaper, go to http://www.ohio.com.
