BRIEF: Fire hammers hardware warehouse
MT. ZION, Jun 07, 2009 (Lebanon Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Firefighters from Fredericksburg to Annville converged on the Mt. Zion area to fight a fire that destroyed a warehouse yesterday afternoon.
"It was fully involved when we got here," Mt. Zion Community Fire Chief Bob Dunbar said about 90 minutes after the fire was reported at 589 Freeport Road in Bethel Township at 4:01 p.m. "Flames were through the roof, and flames were all through the building."
The warehouse at Fox's Pro Hardware was used to store a variety of materials, ranging from straw to oil and paints. For that reason, Dunbar called out the Lebanon County HazMat Team to assist with cleanup.
No injuries were reported, although the heat from the fire and sun left some firefighters exhausted.
"The heat's getting to them," Dunbar said.
Assisting Mt. Zion were firefighters from Fredericksburg, Glenn Lebanon, Rural Security, Kutztown, Jonestown Perseverance, Prescott, Ono and Annville Union Hose, along with fire police and First Aid and Safety Patrol.
