BRIEF: El Paso may test Google Web service
EL PASO, Mar 20, 2010 (El Paso Times - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Google -- the most widely used search engine in the world -- could soon become an Internet provider, and it's looking at cities like El Paso to test-run its new service.
The city government announced this week that it has submitted an application to Google that, if approved, would make El Paso one of about 10 cities to receive free Internet service during a trial period.
As part of the application process, El Pasoans are being asked to fill out a brief survey to show their interest in having the technology here.
People may go to www.google.com/appserve/fiberrfi/public/options .
The deadline to respond is March 26.
