BRIEF: Customers experience Internet problems

Nov 22, 2008 (The Dickinson Press - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
Internet customers in southwest North Dakota and beyond experienced difficulties with their connection for a few hours on Friday. Dickinson's Consolidated worked to patch the connection in a matter of hours.

The problem stemmed because Sprint had trouble between Bismarck and Chicago, said Rhonda Dukart, Consolidated public relations manager.

"It's not an unusual occurrence," she said. "Anytime you're dealing with the Internet you're at the mercy of the long distance companies."

While it wasn't a complete outage, it caused delays in e-mail and more.
"It did cause intermittent Web site connections as well," said Jeremy Witte, network designer. "Anybody that was behind a Sprint connection -- our customers were having problems getting to."

He added Consolidated customers, which span all of southwest North Dakota, were not the only ones who experienced difficulties.

"I would assume there has to be tens of thousands," Dukart said.
The complications started around 8 a.m. and Witte said the connection was back to normal by about 11:30 a.m.
