BRIEF: Crowd lines up for new iPhone [Victoria Advocate, Texas]

(Victoria Advocate (TX) Via Acquire Media NewsEdge) Sept. 19--A crowd of about 40 people stood in line for the iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus smartphones outside of the AT&T store on Navarro Street.

There were a couple of lawn chairs, but the crowds remained anxious standing in line for the newest model released by Apple today. Some people had waited in line overnight to get theirs.

The iPhone 6 has a 4.5-inch touch-screen and the iPhone 6 Plus has a 5.5-inch screen. The previous model, the iPhone 5s had a 4-inch screen.

AT&T employee Joe Santana handed out clipboards for prospective buyers to fill out with basic information and featured the store's promotions. A team of employees waited inside anticipating the rush when doors opened at 8 a.m.

Another employee started at the front and kept walking to the back of the line telling customers they are welcome to wait but the shipment comes in at 10:30 a.m. and they don't know how many phones are in it.

There was a few collective groans but no one left the line.

According to an Apple press release, the company opened up pre-orders for the new iPhones last Friday with a record 4 million within the first 24 hours.
