BRIEF: Cell phone causes wreck

OAKWOOD, Nov 12, 2008 (Commercial-News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) --
A cell phone call put a Vermilion County woman in the hospital.
Sandra Jeffers, 58, of Fithian was injured in a one-vehicle accident at 3:30 p.m. Monday along U.S. Route 150 near County Road 680E west of Oakwood.

A spokeswoman for Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana said Jeffers was listed in fair condition Tuesday morning as a result of the crash. She was transferred from Provena United Samaritans Medical Center.

According to the accident report from the Vermilion County Sheriff's Department, Jeffers was drving north on U.S. 150 when she reached across to answer her ringing cell phone.

She lost control of the van she was driving, which swerved off the road to the right before leaving the roadway to the left and overturned in a cornfield.



No citations were issued as a result of the accident.
