Brian Gryth Joins Accela as CivicData.com Senior Product Manager

SAN RAMON, Calif. --(Business Wire)--

Accela (News - Alert), the leading provider of civic engagement solutions for government agencies, today announced Brian Gryth joins Accela as senior product manager, CivicData.com. To support the growing open data movement, Gryth will engage with government agencies to improve the flow of data from their internal systems into CivicData.com, collaborate with open data industry leaders and civic tech developers to collaborate on new data standards, and engage with civic tech startups to link their apps to custom datasets on the Accela Civic Platform.

CivicData.com is a free, cloud-based open data platform that makes it easier for government agencies to publish and manage datasets. The platform gives Accela customers and prospects the ability to provide rich government data to developers and citizens looking to transform data into civic solutions. Central to CivicData.com is the creation and deployment of innovative apps by developers.

Gryth is a government entrepreneur and a passionate advocate for civic innovation and technology-driven open government. He founded OpenColorado, the first community-driven data catalogs in North America, where he grew the database to over 750 datasets in just 10 months. He directed the creation of Go Code Colorado, an award-winning civic apps challenge. Most recently, Gryth was the program manager for the Business Intelligence Center, Business and Licensing Division for Colorado's Department of State. In his role as program manager he improved access to data relevant to businesses and implemented a civic apps challenge to incent developers to leverage data to create useful tools for government.

"Brian comes to us with tremendous government agency, open data and policy experience. He understands the value that open data and an open platform approach can bring to government and developers and will define, drive and evangelize the vision for open data and the Accela Civic Platform," said Maury Blackman, Accela president and CEO. "Given the momentum around open government and open data, we look forward to Brian working alongside agencies, developers and citizens to address their unique data needs and define the standards that will foster civic engagement."

"It is a wonderful time to join Accela," said Gryth. "I'm impressed by Accela's commitment to civic tech leadership and government success. CivicData.com is proof of that commitment and that Accela's leadership understands that data is the infrastructure of the digital world. I'm looking forward to helping governments create better outcomes through data."
