Bowling slots up for grabsOct 05, 2011 (Gulf Daily News - McClatchy-Tribune Information Services via COMTEX) -- SIX of Bahrain's top bowlers are vying for four spots on the kingdom's national team that will be competing in the upcoming GCC Games, which get underway next week. Former Arab champions Mohammed Al Shawoosh and Yousef Falah are joined by Mohammed Sultan, Mohammed Janahi, Essa Abduljabbar and Fawaz Abdulla as the players currently training under head coach Tim Mack for the Games. Coach Mack is expected to announce the final team of four in the next few days, according to the Bahrain Bowling Association. Bowling is one of 10 sports set to feature at the first-ever GCC Games, also known as Bahrain 11. Play will be held at the new bowling centre in Sitra. Action will begin with the official practices on the Games' opening day, October 11, and conclude on the 15th with the Masters competition. On October 12, the bowlers will be competing in the singles event, followed the next day by the doubles. October 14 will then see the teams' event. Meanwhile, the official fan and entertainment zone for the GCC Games will open its doors to the public tomorrow under the patronage of Supreme Council for Youth and Sports chairman and Bahrain Olympic Committee (BOC) president Shaikh Nasser bin Hamad Al Khalifa. The fan zone, which will be known as the "Bahrain 11 Village", will be located along the Al Fateh Corniche and will feature a range of exciting and interactive entertainment events and activities for all members of the public to enjoy and take part in. It will be open to the public daily between from tomorrow until October 22, between 6pm and midnight on weekdays and then from 2pm to midnight on weekends. The wide range of gaming, sports, and interactive recreational activities available at the village is an ideal location for a family day out. The village includes a gaming zone equipped with Wii and X-Box 360 consoles, an extreme sports zone featuring fire jugglers and football freestylers, professional walkabout entertainers, an outdoor theatre, food stalls and a human foosball game, in addition to a high-end VIP tent and sports gallery amongst all the exciting activities and games. An exclusive line-up of acrobatic, music and stand-up comedy shows will also take place alongside the activities. BOC chief executive Shaikh Khalid bin Abdulla Al Khalifa said: "The Bahrain 11 village is the public's window into the games. It has been designed to attract and engage those interested in the games, and encourage them to participate through the range of activities that have been planned there.
